Many parents on UrbanSitter are eager to connect with sitters who are background checked. Sitters with background checks get significantly more jobs than those without! Once you've completed and cleared a background check, a background check badge will be added to your profile that is visible to parents.
Your background check badge will help you stand out among sitters who have also expressed interest in a parent's job post, or in parents' sitter searches. Here's how to complete a background check on the UrbanSitter website:
If your sitter account is currently on the basic membership plan, you'll first need to upgrade to the Premium Membership plan to complete a basic background check. You can do so on your Account's Settings page.
On the right side of your screen next to 'Account Basics', click 'Upgrade'. This will take you to the sitter Membership Pricing page - under 'Upgrade to Premium', click 'Upgrade' to confirm your purchase of the Premium Membership plan.

Please note that currently the function to upgrade your sitter membership is available on the UrbanSitter website accessed on a desktop or mobile web browser, and is not featured on the UrbanSitter app.
After your sitter account has been upgraded to the Premium Membership plan, you're all set to complete a background check! To initiate the basic background check, simply reach out to our Support team by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject "Free Background Check" and we will get back to you as soon as possible with the link!
Sitter background checks are processed through our third party background provider, Checkr*. During the check, Checkr references the sitter's name against their Social Security Number. The sitter's name and SSN are then checked against the National Sex Offender Registry and Multi-State Criminal records. Once the background check is complete and cleared, a background check badge will display on your UrbanSitter profile.
Please note that it may take 3-5 full business days for the check to be completed and this badge to appear on your profile. Background check badges are displayed on your profile for 12 months.
Upon completion of your background check, you should receive an email from Checkr regarding the results. If you would like to request a new copy of your results, or have any specific questions about your background check, you may contact Checkr Customer Support by calling 844-2-CHECKR or by going to Checkr’s Help Center.
*Background checks processed between 1/31/2012 and 1/31/2013 were processed by TalentWise. Background checks processed between 1/31/2013 and 7/30/2015 were processed by HireRight. Background checks processed after 7/30/2015 were processed by Checkr.
