On UrbanSitter, all sitters are placed through a standardized profile and identity check prior to being active and able to connect with parents. If you are viewing an active sitter profile, rest assured that sitter has been automatically checked for authenticity and manually reviewed by a member of our team!
However, we do provide sitters the opportunity to complete a basic background check. Background checks are processed by a third party service*, currently Checkr. Checkr references the sitter's name against their Social Security Number and is then checked against the National Sex Offender Registry and Multi-State Criminal records.
When a sitter clears a background check, a badge is displayed on their profile for 12 months.
You can also purchase an upgraded background check or driving record check for a sitter you're considering hiring. To start this process, you can click the background check banner at the bottom of a full-time or part-time Search and Saved Search page, your Interested Sitters list (for your part or full-time job post) or your Interview details page (for a part or full-time job). You can also send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org using the subject line: Upgraded Background Check Request for [Sitter Name].

Click the banner to let our Support Team know you're interested in an upgraded background check, and we will follow up with you via email. You'll see a green banner confirming your request at the top of your screen. Upon recieving the background check results, we will disclose each component's status of either pass or fail. We are not authorized to send the parent the full background check, however the sitter may do so upon their discretion.
*Background checks processed between 1/31/2012 and 1/31/2013 were processed by TalentWise. Background checks processed between 1/31/2013 and 7/30/2015 were processed by HireRight. Background checks processed after 7/30/2015 were processed by Checkr.
