At UrbanSitter, we aim to be the most trusted childcare platform possible. Coming soon, all approved sitters on UrbanSitter will be fully vetted with a manual profile review and comprehensive background check through our third-party safety partner, Evident ID. Why are we doing this? Previously, sitters on UrbanSitter became approved to start booking jobs after a profile and background review which included passing sitters through a series of offender registries and watchlists, publicly available digital national and county criminal records, and a manual profile review based on the information provided. Now, all active sitters on the platform will also need to purchase a membership and clear an Evident ID background check before connecting with families. What’s included in a sitter’s background check?
Background checks are processed by our third-party safety partner Evident ID and include the following:
- SSN Trace
- Nationwide Sex Offender Registry Check
- Global Watchlist Check of terrorist, sanction, and other watchlists
- National Criminal Search for history of felony and misdemeanors
- County searches based on records found during national search
What if my existing sitter on UrbanSitter does not purchase a membership or pass a background check?
If a sitter you already work with does not opt to purchase a membership or clear a background check, you will still be able to message them on UrbanSitter and your accepted bookings will complete as expected. However, you will not be able to book them for jobs and their profile will no longer show up in search results. If you'd like to purchase your sitter's membership for them, learn how here!
If a sitter opts to purchase a membership but does not pass their background check, their profile will be closed and they will no longer have access to UrbanSitter. As a result, you won’t be able to contact them or book them for jobs.
By November 2019, all sitters will be held to these new standards. All of us at UrbanSitter are excited about these upcoming changes and we know you’ll be too.
