The UrbanSitter platform is designed as a marketplace for families and caregivers to connect for care jobs, and we are not an employer. Payment arrangements are made between families and caregivers. Therefore, local and state minimum wage laws do not apply to caregivers as UrbanSitter does not employ caregivers.
However, UrbanSitter does honor the federal minimum wage and therefore does not allow families to post jobs below $8/hr. We encourage both caregivers and families to familiarize themselves with their local minimum wage laws and average rates in major metropolitan areas. If you see a job posted that doesn't meet your rate requirements, please explore other opportunities on the Job Board!
We believe babysitters should be paid a fair wage and publish an annual survey to assist parents in determining how much to pay their babysitter or nanny. The current average babysitting rate across the United States for one child is $16.75 per hour. Las Vegas has the least expensive babysitter rates at $11.63 per hour for one child whereas San Francisco topped the list at $18.75 per hour for one child!
